Urology & Gynecology
Among the most disturbing conditions affecting the quality of life of male and female patients are those associated with pelvic region disorders.
Patients suffering from recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTI) have damaged bladder urothelium, allowing irritants contained in urine to leak into the bladder submucosal tissues causing pain and inflammation. Damaged bladder urothelium can also be found in patients suffering from interstitial cystitis (IC/BPS) and radiation or chemotherapy cystitis.
IBSA products:
- combination of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate which, when instilled in the bladder, can prevent damage to the urothelium, enhancing its healing process.
- soft gel capsules, an oral formulation containing hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate, in combination with quercetin and curcumin, which is useful in the treatment of pelvic pain and discomfort due to cystitis thanks to its anti-oxidant action.
Topical treatments with hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and fat-soluble extract of Centella asiatica and Chamomilla vulgaris can be useful in vaginal diseases. This formulation is available as vaginal suppositories, which may be useful in treating vaginal irritation, itching, and uncomplicated atrophic vaginitis.
More recently, IBSA has also focused its interest on male disorders, such as erectile dysfunction (ED), developing an innovative orodispersible film (ODF) of sildenafil. ODF is a novel drug-delivery system that allows fast oral disintegration of the active ingredient in the mouth, even without the need to drink water for administration, thus ensuring discreet and effective treatment for the patient.
